Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge is a 2008 American pornographic action-adventure film and sequel to the 2005 film Pirates. Produced by Digital Playground, and written and directed by Joone, it stars Jesse Jane, Evan Stone, Steven St. Croix, and Tommy Gunn who reprise their roles from the first film, as well as Belladonna, Sasha Grey, Katsuni, Jenna Haze, and Ben English as new characters.[1] Carmen Luvana, who played the central character of Isabella in the original Pirates, is absent from the sequel.
With a budget of $8 million, it is considered one of the most expensive porn films ever produced.[2] It was released direct-to-DVD and Blu-ray on September 27, 2008. An edited R-rated version of the film is also available.[3]
Captain Edward Reynolds brags about his victory over the dreaded pirate Victor Stagnetti to his loyal companion Jules; he has even assembled a new crew for his ship, including Ai Chow and Olivia, Serena's cousin. It is Olivia who informs the crew that the governor of Jamaica has ordered Serena's arrest and Olivia is on board to protect the crew from enemies, and to convince Edward and Jules to ask for Serena's pardon. When they finally go to Jamaica and ask Governor Littleton to pardon Serena, he is more interested in Jules' appearance than anything else. They convince the governor, who first sends them on a mission to kill another group of pirates and find another hidden treasure.
Pirates II became part of a controversy when the University of Maryland, College Park's student union intended to screen the film. After state Senator Andrew P. Harris offered a budget amendment to strip all public funding from any institution airing pornographic films, the university announced that it would cancel the screening.[8] Had the Senator's demand been carried out, the university would have been forced to forfeit $424 million in funds.[9]

So the Grey Goose phenomenon is that when a market is flooded with cheap product, sometimes you can compete by charging MORE money, thereby making your product into a status symbol. (Probably more relevant with alcohol, which is something you buy to impress people, than with porn, which is something you want to keep secret. But hey, people like to treat themselves, right)
Today is my last day in Texas. I’ll be on planes for much of it, so I have no idea what tomorrow’s newsletter will look like. As for today: there were a ton of suspensions arising out of that Mariners-Angels donnybrook, the Royals made a trade to make room for a prospect, we learned that you can’t wear a shirt with the word “porn” on it at …
"I think because of the autonomy that a public university ought to have versus the legislature, the president should not have canceled the film," Kissel said, though he added it was not immediately clear whether the pornographic film would have constituted protected speech under the First Amendment.
Obscene content is not necessarily protected under the U.S. Constitution, Kissel said, but the fact that the student committee planned to have Planned Parenthood give a pre-screening presentation on safe sex practices before the film strengthens the First Amendment argument. Planned Parenthood, while saying it does not endorse pornography, had accepted the invitation as a way to educate students.
"No, we cancelled the (showing) because the educational context of the movie has been lost in the titillation that's been associated with the movie itself," according to Clement's spokesperson Millree Williams.
Now that the showing of the film has been made so controversial, Linda Clement has a very strong incentive to reverse her ill-considered decision on educational grounds. It is completely backwards to say that the controversy made the showing less educational, when in fact the controversy has opened serious issues for debate: government censorship, freedom of speech, what counts as truly obscene in the legal sense, the educational and cultural value of potentially distasteful or offensive art, and so on. With their ill-considered actions, the university and the Maryland legislature have actually created a situation in which showing a pornographic film will enrich campus discourse about important issues. Remember: We're talking about adult college students, not eighth graders. As Greg wrote in The Huffington Post about this case, "With all the uproar, you would think these were children forced to watch the film, rather than adult college students engaged in perfectly legal behavior."
[N]o one had to watch the movie, and that it "should not be up to politicians to try to dictate to the citizens what movies they are going to see." He also pointed out that a student group had organized the film's showing.

Hey everyone. It's been pretty hectic for me these past few weeks as I sadly couldn't get a column up last week. I'm back this week, though, for another helping of the week's news bits, box office goodies, new official websites for upcoming movies and new trailers. I didn't even get to watch anything new last week, since I'm out of DVD's to review and due to aforementioned hecticity. So we'll just get right into Notables.
Oh goody. The guy who directed Sleepover and Sydney White has another chick flick in the works. Smashing. This one has a guy and a girl who are B.F.F.'s and make it through high school together only to have it blossom into love. It's sad how detached from reality these movies really are. If you're a best friend forever, there usually isn't an upgrade to love involved, if you're from this planet anyway. I hope this gets shelved for, like, forever! Worst News of the Week Nominee.
It looks like Clint is going international on us in a very different sort of movie we're used to from him. It sounds like part historical flick, part sports flick and part Nelson Mandella biopic, which is quite an intriguing blend. Scribe Anthony Peckham does have a spotty filmography, but his South African heritage should make him ideal to script this project. Oh, Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandella and Matt Damon as the captain of the South African rugby team that won the 1995 Rugby World Cup, won't hurt things one bit either. Look for big things from this flick. Best News of the Week Nominee.
This should stir up the same sort of controversy that The Passion of the Christ stirred up a few years ago. This movie will be based on two books, both almost 100 years old, that supposedly fill in the Biblical blanks of Jesus Christ from age 13 to 30. This project doesn't have the big-name filmmakers, though, with Drew Hariot making his non-documentary feature debut and some other producers and writers I've never heard of. It says here they're going global with casting, so we might not hear of any of the cast either. The premise is a tad intriguing, but I really don't see the need for this type of project, and I can't see it becoming anything but controversial. Worst News of the Week Nominee.
I haven't heard much about this, but it looks like another solid true-story sports flick about a small town school about to be consolidated into a bigger school, having one last shot at glory with their baseball team. Interesting cast here with Sean Astin, Powers Boothe and Rachel Leigh Cook. It's also directed by the guy who helmed The Sandlot, so there's that. Could be an interesting movie, but I'm not sure if it'll branch out into a wide release or not. The Final Season opens on October 12, in a limited release.
We haven't seen much of Ron Livingston lately, but it looks like he makes up for lost time nicely with this dramatic winner. Based off a true story, this flick takes us from the trenches of the Vietnam war to the trenches of America in the fight for equality for disabled persons. Livingston stars as a veteran who becomes deaf in the war and takes up another fight for his cause. It looks like quite a powerful movie and one that will showcase Livingston's talents on the big screen once again. Music Within opens on October 26 in limited release.
Some very very good choices this week, but I'm going with Clint Eastwood's new project for my Best News of the Week. Eastwood's direction normally means simply wonderful things for a movie, and, even though this movie didn't necessarily need the extra buzz, I'm sure no one will mind at all. Three of Clint's last four pictures have been up for Best Picture and, if they keep the ball rolling with some wonderful casting, I can't see why that trend will change at all. Clint is really at the top of his game as of late, and I'll keep looking forward to more great projects from him.
I'm going with this retarded B.F.F. movie for my Worst News of the Week. Joe Nussbaum is certainly not at the top of his game, as he continues to make chick flicks that barely anyone sees. I don't know why they keep making movies like this one, the one where the friends turn into more than friends because it just plain doesn't happen in real life, or at least not as often as the garden-variety occurance the movies make it out to be. I know, I know, it's a fictional movie and everything, but it still annoys me. That and the fact that B.F.F. is an actual saying and that people can't seem to use full words anymore...
The 27-year-old's impressive display at the recent royal nuptials attracted the attention of Vivid Entertainment's Steven Hirsch, who wrote: "As far as I was concerned, you were the star of the recent Royal Wedding. As I watched a broadcast of the event, I couldn't help but think that with your beauty and attitude, you could be an enormously successful adult star. This week, after seeing photos of you having a great time at a party, I decided to offer you a role in one of our upcoming movies." 153554b96e
